Food

Food is an all-pervading part of our lives, and the media attention it gets in terms of the economy, our health and the environment reflects this. In fact, it can all get a bit overwhelming, to the point of near-paralysis when it comes to decision time – rainforest friendly or fair trade? Organic or conventional? But there is no denying that into our food goes huge amounts of resources, time, labour, tradition and love, and we link with all of this through what we choose to eat.

The Wychwood Network at least hopes to shed light on some local aspects of food. There is a huge amount going on at the business and individual level, and this provides a great resource: to eat as well as learn from. So we are building a map of the Wychwood area on which is marked food producers and outlets. It is hoped this will provide a useful resource for those looking to get some local fare. If we have missed anything, please let us know (see page editor details at bottom).

Below are some links to interesting web pages, information and further resources as well as details of foody events going on in the area. Please let us know if there is an event happening that you think is pertinent to this site.

Finally, if you have a food-based skill or experience that you would be happy to share for community projects, and which we could put into our skills and resources directory, please contact the page editor. This can be anything from owning a food smoker, having experience of rearing chickens or small livestock to knowing about traditional seed/plant varieties, being a great ale brewer or having excess apples.

Let’s get an already thriving local food economy, really buzzing!
